People study in things. They believe strongly. And when those tactile sensations are broken, they often determine personally betrayed by that. This is the desire expressed in hind end Gardners Grendel. In this story, Gardner illustrates what can happen when everything a person believes is challenged and how they may oppose to that. Grendel, in this story, represents the common man. He is not as substantially intelligent, but nor is he stupid. He illustrates tender emotions and thought processes. The shaping machine, as well as umpteen of the human characters represent the tone in God, and the tophus represents the idea of atheism. In the beginning, Grendel believes in the motive of the Shaper. He is moved by the Shapers words and lyrics and begins to believe in the Shapers visions of God, and history and glory. The man had changed the human race, had torn up the prehistorical by its thick, gnarled root and had transmuted it, and they, who k natural the truth, remembered it his way-and so did I. (Pg. 43). Even though Grendel mat up that he knew what had happened, the beauty of the Shapers words and songs neutered his mind learn and false him onto the truth as the Shaper knew it. He was trouble by that because the Shaper portrayed him as a nut and a demon, but was so overpower by the song, that he couldnt argue.
He told of an ancient feud. between deuce brothers which split the world between darkness and light. And I, Grendel, was the dark side, he said in effect. The indescribable race God cursed. I believed him. Such was the king of the Shapers retell! (51). Then Grendel experienced something new. Something which changed his views and offered him a new way of thinking. He met the dragon.
